TEHRAN - The Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday on the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh.

Committee spokesman Ebrahim Rezaei said, “The assassination of Ismail Haniyeh is a cowardly act that its perpetrators will undoubtedly will receive the necessary response.”

Haniyeh who had participated in the swearing-in ceremony of new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on Tuesday was assassinated in his residence in Tehran early on Wednesday.

Hamas said its political chief was killed in “a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran”.
